Administration of Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS)

Administration of Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS)

Currently, CHAS enables Singapore Citizens from lower- to middle-income households, and all Pioneers, to receive subsidies for medical and dental care at participating CHAS clinics. Singapore Citizens who qualify for CHAS will receive an individual blue or orange CHAS card. They will need to show both their NRIC and valid CHAS or Pioneer Generation card during their visits at CHAS clinics, and we encourage clinics to check with their patients at the point of registration. For cardholders below 15 years old, they will need to present their student ID or birth certificate and valid CHAS card. The CHAS cards are non-transferable and typically have a validity period of 2 years unless otherwise indicated on the card. Pioneers will have to show their PG card together with their NRIC upon registration during each visit to the CHAS clinic.

From 1 November 2019, CHAS will be extended to cover all Singapore Citizens for chronic conditions to allow more Singaporeans to benefit from more affordable chronic care at participating CHAS GP clinics, and to enable greater anchoring of chronic care in the community. All Merdeka Generation (MG) seniors will also receive special subsidies for medical and dental care at CHAS GP and dental clinics. CHAS Green and MG cardholders will also enjoy subsidised referrals to Specialist Outpatient Clinics (SOCs) located at Public Hospitals.
